Giacopo Venier (also: Venieri, Venerio and de Veneris; 1422 - August 3, 1479) was an Italian cardinal from the 15th century.Known also as the Cardinal of Cuenca.
Venier was born at Recanati. After obtaining doctorate in law he became papal scriptor in Rome and, later, cleric of the Apostolic Chamber.
He was elected by the pope bishop of Siracusa on January 9, 1462. Transferred to the see of León on September 16, 1464. King Henry IV of Castile resent him to Rome as his ambassador. Venier was transferred to the see of Cuenca on October 6, 1469, and occupied the see until his death.
Pope Sixtus IV created him cardinal priest in the consistory of May 7, 1473 with the title of Ss. Vito e Modesto, deaconry elevated pro illa vice to title and later opted for the title of S. Clemente on December 3, 1476. He died on August 3, 1479 in Recanati. His remains were transferred to Rome and buried in the Basilica di San Clemente.
